MajorStage interviews Winner of Soundcheck showcase:
1. Congrats on your Win at the @Soundcheckshowcase! How does it feel to come out victorious and how was the overall experience?
Thank you! The feeling is surreal; I basically came out to this showcase blind. Stepping into the light for my first time, winning was the greatest way to push start my career. Through my experience, I traveled from South Florida to Manhattan, New York and impressed a
lot of people including myself. I had the opportunity to see what I’m up against as an artist and as a performer. The outcome was flattering for the hard work and preparation on mine and my supporters parts.
2. Tell us, who is D Blizzy?
I’m a performer; I work extremely hard lyrically to handle any competition I’m up against. When I create music I always feel like I can do better and strive to learn more about the craft of music. I’m a full blooded Italian from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and over
the last I year have been living in New York. Two months before the moved I decided to begin recording vocals and over the last year have transcended into a talented hip hop rapper. D Blizzy is my artist name, the D stands for my first name Dean.
3. What made you decide a career in music was for you?
The first time I heard my voice with a beat behind it I really enjoyed it. I have a huge personality and I think my fans appreciate that in my music. Writing and recording lyrics went from being a hobby to an obsession, while living and adapting to New York’s
freezing winters I became a little stir crazy indoors and concentrated mostly on creating my first mixed cd. During this time I put out twenty-two records including collaboration with other artists and building an entertainment management company with two close friends from my home town. This is when I realized music was for me.
4. Which Artists inspired and influenced you most?
My biggest inspiration with out a doubt is Lil Wayne. I admire his versatility and his ability to rock the crowd in concert. I have seen him four times in concert. Drake and Fabolous also have influenced me lyrically using punch lines and metaphors in ways that
really grabbed my attention as a listener.
5. What do you think is the formula for success as a Recording Artist?
I think that you have to find what works for you. Personally I write lyrics on my phone all day long when ever something comes to my head. It’s very important as an artist to go into the studio ready and rehearsed with the beat you want to use and lyrics exactly how
you want them. When it comes to the mixing I am very lucky because the man who mixes my tunes has a really good ear for music. However, I do like to sit down with him and point out some effects I would like to use from my own creative insight. When you
leave the studio you should feel amazing about what you just created, if you don’t, then your formula is not working.
6. What’s next for you and what projects are you working on?
After completing my mixtape and winning the showcase, I received beats from DJ Sinima. I am currently working on writing lyrics to these beats as well as working on more mixed tracks. Besides writing and putting together new tunes, I am also rehearsing for two showcases I will be attending in September. Practice makes perfect and when it
comes to performing I want to be exciting and show the crowd a good time, in the end it is all about the fans!
